Young people not in in education, employment or training set to hit 1 million

Commenting on analysis from the Resolution Foundation showing the number of young people aged between 16 -24 not in education, employment or training now standing at 940,000, Daniel Kebede, general secretary of the National Education Union, said:

“It is unacceptable that so many people are being left behind at such a formative time in their lives.  Unmet SEND need and absurd waiting times for mental health support are contributing to young people struggling to stay in school and to progress into further study and work.

“The Government needs to invest in an inclusive education system which enables all young people to thrive. It must also invest in diverse, accessible and enjoyable routes to meaningful work, and make sure every young person has all they need to succeed”.
